ManRay Chess board
Classic geometry, revolutionary design! With his long career of groundbreaking work in painting, sculpture and photography, Man Ray (1890-1976) can truly be described as one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. In this, his first draft of chess pieces, Man Ray renounced traditional and figurative forms of identification. Instead he used the “ideal forms”, the purely geometric forms of Euclid: cube, sphere, pyramid and cone. Instead, he made iconic references. The pyramid is the Egyptian symbol of royal rule and the cone is the shape of the medieval headgear of a queen. The runner (bishop in English) is associated with the preparation of exotic liqueurs and spirits of a bishop and needs a jug for it. Man Ray was also a Dadaist and so he could not fail to add at least an inharmonious, but nevertheless elegant figure. The shape of the jumper is the snail of a violin from Man Ray's studio. From a geometrical point of view, the jumper in the form of a snail represents the Fibonacci sequence, which describes the spiral growth in natural forms. The chess piece set consists of 32 pieces, height 4 - 8 cm. Both the chess board (40 x 40 x 2.5 cm) and the pieces are made of solid beech wood. Made in Germany
